She clicks down the street, a blonde twenty-something with a fresh face and a cute smile. Halfway down, she stops to buy a big issue from one of the many vendors. She smiles and hands over the money ("With a little bit extra, just for you.") and turns into a restaurant.

She sits on the first floor, flicking through the magazine and watching the undulating sea of umbrellas through the window. A waiter comes past, and she orders two white wines. She reflects on how lucky she is to be within walking distance of the city centre. The drinks come, and make circles of moisture on the coasters.

She's waiting.

A car drives past the pedestrian zone, presumably to the car park at the back of the restaurant. Her phone rings. She accepts the call, listening for a few minutes before nodding, a very final gesture, and speaking ("Good." she utters, making it more a statement than praise.)

She hears footsteps on the stairs, and rejects the call before turning and smiling at the faceless Johnny Corporate crossing the room towards her. And as she turns her head to accept the greeting kiss, she thinks, finally.

It's all beginning now.
